The Prank
It was 2:30pm a sunny day and the scene is a fancy restaurant where Jake and Emily were with their Mom and Dad having Emily’s birthday lunch. Emily is a bright young girl with stunning long blonde hair. She has sparkly blue eyes and cheery red checks with some freckles on there too. Emily is 16 and studies all kinds of medicines at school. She aims to become a doctor one day. Jake has wavy hair with dark brown menacing eyes. He has no freckles at all, just bony checks that stick out from his face. Jake is not the learning kind but is super smart - he just dosen’t try. Jake is 14 years old.
As Jake and Emily were at the bar getting drinks they noticed there was a lot less people in the restaurant than before. Then, as they turned around, everyone was gone as quick as a blink of an eye. They were feeling very scared and confused not knowing what to do. They had a second check of the restaurant to make sure there was no one there. They had finished and were checking the streets, but there was no living person or animal anywhere. So they jumped in their car with Emily behind the wheel. They drove around town. It was completely abandoned.
They chose to drive to the other side of town where their Grandad lived. Even this part of town was empty, but they were greeted by the cheery smile of their Grandad. He looked like he was fighting back a worried feeling. It hit them. They knew he knew something, after all he's the only person that hadn’t disappeared.
They soon were sitting in the living room. There was an awkward silence in the room. Then Emily spoke up “why are things so strange here Grandad?” Grandad looked frightened. He started to slowly open his mouth.
“Things aren’t strange here, don't be silly” he said. Jake quickly shoot back
“Then explain why no one is to be seen for miles of this dumb town.” Grandad looked away “Things are happening but you don't need to worry about it.”
“Is there anything we can do?” Emily looked straight at her Grandad.
“Nothing, nothing at all” Grandad said.
Every day Emily and Jake would set out on a walk around town. Every time the did they tried to figure out why this was happening. But every idea they had was complete rubbish. They spent the last two days exploring the town then going back to their Grandads to eat and sleep.
The third day came and it was more strange than any other day. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, but Grandad was gone. They walked outside to see houses full with people. The streets had cars everywhere and everyone they knew and loved were standing in front of them. Everyone was laughing
“Why are you laughing” Jake snapped.
“It was a prank” everyone screamed. Grandad spoke up
“I tried gathering everyone up to ask them if they would go on a holiday to Australia. They all loved the idea and agreed to go.”
“Hahaha nicely done Grandad” Emily laughed.
“Happy birthday Emily” everyone yelled. Every weekend from then Emily and Jake went to visit their Grandad just in case something strange happened again.

Community Trust
Otama Primary School
12 McBain Road RD3 Gore
Dear Community Trust
Otama School needs a new playground.
We want people coming in from morning tea and lunch happy, because they have had something fun and enjoyable to do during that time. Having a good playground in front of our school could bring new students to our school. People being able to see kids playing and having a good time on a flash playground shows them we care about our school.
The playground we have now was bought second hand years and years ago. Which means we are due for a new playground. There are bits on the playground that aren't safe and a real danger hazard. The fort and other bits of the playground are loose and are easy to see from the road where people look at our school and probably think we don't care at all. The fort is probably ready to came down. Is that really safe?
We work hard at school for 6 hours! We go out for morning tea for 30 minutes and we go out for lunch for a hour. Between our brakes we stop working which means it's time to have fun. What other way to have fun then play on a new exciting enjoyable playground that everyone likes. The one we have now is really old and breaking and it's not very attractive to kids.
Research has shown that everyone functions better when they have a change of pace.Young children do not process as much information as older kids which means they really benefit from breaks.
Because of these reasons we think we deserve a new playground and we would like the Community Trust to help fund it.
Yours Sincerely
Eden Baynes

I’m in Rio for the Olympics, remember, for running? You would have forgotten, but my race was yesterday. I went horribly bad - just kidding - I came first. I was so proud of myself, I couldn't stop laughing I’m so so happy. People were cheering my name and chanting “Go New Zealand!” over and over. At the end of the day we were called up for the medal ceremony. There were 3 boxes. The middle one was the tallest, the one on the right was a silver box a little shorter than the middle one. Then the last box was bronze. This box was the shortest out of them all. There were people already standing on the silver and bronze boxes but no one on the middle. Suddenly I heard ‘’And Eden Baynes, first! Congratulations!’’ I stood on the middle box holding my big gold medal above my head. So there you go family. I’ll be back in a week.

Long Jump
Long jump requires lots of power to throw yourself up in the air.
You have to be able to gain speed quickly.
This is what you need to know
First you would have to have a long distance between you and the mat so you have enough time to gain enough speed. Once you hit the mat you want to be going fast enough that you hit the mat hard.
The mats colours are in the order of red, yellow, blue, green and cream. I suggest launching off from the blue so your foot has enough time to have a good lift off.
Your arms are very important in long jump. You can't have them crossed or in your pockets. When you take off your arms have to be reaching out in front of you and your legs have to be out in front of you to. You’re basically trying to touch your toes but in the air. When you land and you feel like you’re going to fall backwards, try pushing all your body weight to the front because if you fall backwards it will be measured from where you fall.
Give it a try, it's not that hard.

Recount
As the door started to creep open slowly, a person started emerging from it holding a long metal bell. Suddenly all we could hear was “Get into line now!” We all scrambled into line in front of the rusty green gate spelling Otama School. At this moment in time the fog was still covering the hills. As I turned around I heard footsteps coming closer and closer. Suddenly, out pops Mrs Catherwood with her bright red cherry smile.
Once everyone was on the bus we were off. Everyone was constantly chatting until we got there. Then there was a moment of silence and nerves were kicking in. We all walked on the squishy wet grass until we got to our spot. We put down a blue tarpaulin to sit on it. It was a bit of a squish. We were up first so we got up onto the stage straight away. We were really nervous but we did our best. Once we were finished we sat down and watched the others. My favourite was Tuturau School. After we finished watching all the schools we went back to school after a good day.

When I'm 25
When I’m 25
I want to live 10 minutes from town in a modern flat in a university with at least 4 other people.
I want my career to be working in a country cafe as a waitress when I’m at least 16 or older.
I want to feel like I’m appreciated and deserve what I get.
I want to have good caring friends who stick with me.
I want my parents to feel proud and happy of me.
I want to have a clean and respectful place to live.
I want to have enough money for food and clothes whenever I need them.
